Current Monster Yamaha team leader Colin Edwards has been forced to ditch his plans to run YZF-R1 motors in the CRT MotoGP bike he will campaign next year, instead switching to a BMNW/Suter package instead.
The Texas Tornado has wanted his new Forward team to run a Yamaha motor in a Tech3 designed chassis but that has now gone by the wayside. Edwards has become instrumental in pulling the project together including finding staff and funding, something he isn't used to.
“At the beginning I just said we’d run a Yamaha engine and a Tech 3 chassis because that was my way of putting some pressure on some guys, and they obviously didn’t give a shit what I thought because they said no," said Edwards.
"I had a couple of guys against me on the European side at Yamaha but it will be BMW/Suter. I’m happy to be working with those guys but it is not going to be easy. We probably won't be competitive at the first race and probably not at the last race but we will work our ass off to build it.
“It is a new adventure and we are just trying to get everything sorted out so there’s a lot more work than I’m accustomed to. But at the end of the day everybody would like MotoGP to have Moto2 racing. I'm finding crew chiefs and staff, I'm more used to signing a piece of paper, turning up and riding."
