Marlboro Ducati's Valentino Rossi went under the knife in a local hospital today to have the pin that was inserted into his leg after the massive Mugello MotoGP crash in 2010 removed.
The Doctor snapped his right tibia in the crash when he experienced a cold-tyre highside going through the fast Casanova/Savelli section of the circuit at around 120mph.
A team spokesman said: "Valentino underwent a small operation this morning at Cattolica’s Cervesi hospital to remove the rod that was inserted in his right tibia following his practice crash at the 2010 Mugello GP. The injury is now completely healed. The operation went well, and the Ducati Team rider will be ready for the second test in Malaysia, scheduled for February 28 to March 1."
Team-mate Nicky Hayden also went under the knife today, this time in California, to try and repair the cartilage and muscle damage after his flat-track crash last month.
