Ducati's Nicky Hayden has said that although crashing is an accepted part of the job in motorcycle racing, he is mad at himself for the accident that could well have cost him a higher grid place for tomorrow's Silverstone round.
The 2006 world champion had been fastest in the opening two sectors of what he said was his first proper go at a qualifying lap but as he came into Vale, he had the exact same crash as team-mate Valentino Rossi but half an hour later.
"It's been tough with the conditions changing. Truthfully, we haven't made a lot of changes this weekend and the bike setup has been pretty decent. I'm mad at myself for crashing there. I went out with some new tyres, it was my first go at a qualifying time really," said Hayden, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"The first two splits I had red helmets, I was really on the limit but enjoying it and the bike was moving around but not too bad, spinning a bit and then coming into that section I got in a bit hot. I got on the brakes and it felt pretty good and I thought I could stop but when I came over the crest, I went down."
