Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow scrapped his way to an heroic sixth place in this afternoon's Silverstone MotoGP race after revealing this morning he had, in fact, broken and dislocated his left leg in yesterday's crash.

The Isle of Man resident started from the back of the grid because he didn't take part in qualifying yesterday but was allowed to compete because he had got within 107 per cent of pole time in free practice.

Crutchlow carefully picked his way through the CRT machines on the opening laps before seeing off Valentino Rossi on the factory Ducati, then Stefan Bradl before passing Nicky Hayden on the final lap to take sixth and finish only 15 seconds behind winner Jorge Lorenzo after lapping as fast as Casey Stoner at the end.

"I'm a little but emotional, it's been a tough weekend. Missing two hours of track time to these guys is a disaster but I'm pleased, we did a good job. It was a long day yesterday, they told me at the hospital I wasn't allowed to ride, so we left there and lied a little bit when we got to the circuit," said Crutchlow, straight after the race.

"The medical staff here did a great job getting me out for this race. It was a tough lot of laps and it is a shame I wasn't at the front of the grid as we would have been on the podium, I know that. I still haven't stood on the podium but thanks to all the people that have come out here today."

Crutchlow now leapfrogs his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso to fourth in the title standings after the Italian was sidelined with a mechanical issues.
