Britain's Cal Crutchlow has revealed he turned down a works-backed ride in the Gresini Honda team in favour of staying with his current Monster Yamaha squad for the 2013 MotoGP season.

The Isle of Man resident finally put pen to paper this morning after a meeting last night with Yamaha bosses, including general manager Masahiko Nakajima, and although Crutchlow won't be on a factory-spec bike next season it would seem he may be closer to one than he is at the moment, saying Yamaha 'pulled out all the stops'.

Gresini have one of the two HRC-backed RC213V bikes which are leased out every year, with LCR Honda using the second. Fausto Gresini is now in talks to keep Ben Spies in the MotoGP paddock.

"I knew for the last five races there was an agreement on the table but there was no deadline for this weekend. Yamaha made a massive push for me last night, obviously Herve wanted me and Yamaha pulled out all the stop to keep me here. That is good news for me, it shows their commitment to me for next year is good and strong, and I think we made the correct decision in the end.

"It was close, I had two options on the table and still, this morning, I had the other option on the table and I didn't sign until this morning. It was chopping and changing near enough every hour for the last day or so of whether we would be going to Gresini but the contract was negotiated with Honda, not Gresini.

"They didn't have enough time to give me some answers. I appreciated they were interested and it was nice we have now had three or four manufacturers interested. I think we have come to a good agreement with Yamaha and I'm pleased. We've had continuity this year and seen the results have gone well so hopefully they will go better from now on.

"We will be on a competitive machine next year. It still won't be a factory bike. I won't be on the same bike at Jorge but the situation has changed a lot since we were first talking and from yesterday it changed last night."
