Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow says his lap-five crash in today's Misano MotoGP round saw an easy podium finish get away from him as he had the pace to at least get away with eventual race winner Jorge Lorenzo.
After a poor start where his clutch didn't react in the way he is used to, the Briton got mired in behind team-mate Andrea Dovizioso and then fell as he tried to get past the Italian.
"The worst thing is getting away with Dovi in front of you as he holds you up. He is so late on the brakes. Corner speed and acceleration are different, but he goes so deep on the brakes. I made a hash of the start but I didn't feel that was my fault. I am notorious for getting shit starts - it's something we need to work on - but I thought the clutch was on the bite. It wasn't and then when I released it nothing happened," said Crutchlow, speaking at Misano.
"I lost three place in one lap, I had to change an engine map straightaway as I noticed I didn't have enough acceleration. I got stuck behind Dovi for a few laps and just as I was about to pass him I crashed - it is simple as that, my own fault. I really thought we had a pace to get away with Lorenzo, we were very strong in two sectors which weren't his best. I think we have let an easy podium go today. I still believe we should have tested last week.
"I think Aragon would have been the perfect situation to work on the two things were are struggling with which is stopping the bike and the start of the race. Now we go there on the back foot because everyone has had two days there. Valentino had two extra days here and he is straight on the podium."
