Just-crowned MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has called for a better system to warn backmarkers they are about to be lapped following his big crash in the Valencia race today.
The Spaniard was spat over the highside when he got on to a wet piece of track as he made his way past Britain's James Ellison and says he had also been help up by the pack of riders before.
Lorenzo went as far as to suggest a blue light should be added to electronic dashes which would warn riders the leaders are coming through, a system apparently used in Formula One.
"I arrive into a group of lapped riders, four or five who didn't move, I wasn't taking a lot of risk to overtake them but I could make it, then I arrived to Ellison, he also didn't go outside the line," said Lorenzo, speaking after the race.
"He look back, he saw me, he enter the good line again - I don't know why - so I knew if I didn't overtake him very quick in two or three corner, I will lose again my advantage to Dani so I try to overtake him in the chicane.
"To make it I had to take a little more the wet line, then comes the movement of the bike, I thought I was saving it, I entered the more wet area, leaning, and then the big highside. Was a pity as more than ever we need the co-operation of lap riders. More than ever they don't go outside.
"I could have been more patient and overtake Ellison on the straight but I would lose all the advantage. We have to do something for the lapped riders to see more clearly that someone is going to lap them. Maybe there should be some blue lights on the bikes."
