Ducati MotoGP's Nicky Hayden posted a storming lap on the second day of testing at Jerez, going quicker than he has previously at the Spanish track while Marco Melandri led the World Superbike contingent.
Hayden lapped in 1'40.090, which is half a second faster than he managed in April during qualifying, using a version of the GP12 frame and was three-quarters of a second up on Melandri's S1000RR despite a small off.
The Italian went round in 1'40.826, which was comfortably quicker than anyone else on a Superbike although Carlos Checa, riding the new Panigale, was only a second behind the Italian on a 1'41.840 which bodes well for a bike that needs a whole heap of development work.
Andrea Iannone was also out on the Pramac Ducati, and he set a best lap of 1'40.989 while Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, who is standing in for the injured Ben Spies, set a 1'41.625. Andrea Dovizioso is not riding due to a neck injury.
