Repsol Honda rookie Marc Marquez would like more kilometres on the RC213V under his belt before the MotoGP season opener at Qatar on April 7 even after testing for 12 days in pre-season.
The Spanish Moto2 champion ended the second day of testing at Jerez in seventh place and 1.2s off the pace of Valentino Rossi but said that comes down to the amount of laps other people had done and the amount of data they can rely on.
"Austin was new for everybody and no-one had the setup from last year. Here, it is true the bikes change a little bit from last year but more or less everyone know their setup and have a base but we didn't have a base, it is the first time we have ridden," said Marquez, speaking at Jerez.
The Spaniard had already been to Sepang for three days before the MotoGP pack descended in early February, so he had time to adjust to the bike and track - not so at Jerez.
"This circuit is smaller and the corner are more round. It is a little bit more difficult for a rookie rider. We will have this problem this year on Fridays. Always you want more kilometres and more experience. Twelve days is not enough, but in Qatar we will see."
