Britain's Scott Redding bagged his debut Moto2 pole position at Austin's MotoGP round today and now faces putting together his race strategy at a circuit that is tough on tyres.
The MarcVDS man was the best part of seven-tenths faster than Takaaki Nakagami in second while title rival Pol Espargaro struggled down in seventh - something Redding hopes will continue tomorrow.
"It's been long enough. This bring even more confidence because I try so hard all the time and I'm always the one who comes second. The tables are turned and I'm really enjoying it," said Redding, speaking at Austin.
"We know after five or six laps, the grid is going to drop down so we have to keep this in mind when we discuss strategy tonight. I'd like to save the tyre but it is so hard with that really long right so it will be difficult.
"I think to try and break away with two or three people wil be thing, so we can learn from those guys if they are saving the tyre but I think if you go out and try to hit it, you're going to cook the tyre.
"Espargaro is struggling and it would be good if he struggles in the race so I can get some points back on him before we get to Spain. Terol is there and he hasn't got much to lose. I just want to get out at the front."
