Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez has taken a sensational debut MotoGP win at Austin today, stalking team-mate Dani Pedrosa for the first half of the race before passing with nine laps to go and not letting his fellow Spaniard get another look in.

The youngster broke Freddie Spencer's 30-year-old record as the youngest race winner in premier class history which added to the pole position age record he bagged when he took pole position in Texas yesterday.

Marquez, who took the harder tyre compared to Pedrosa's soft, looked comfortable behind his team leader right from the start, braking earlier than his compatriot and then put a clean move on Pedrosa to take the lead.

However, Marquez didn't disappear into the distance and Pedrosa hung on until two laps from the end when he dropped a second to Marquez and eventually finished 1.5s in arrears. He complained of pain in his shoulder in parc ferme which affected his braking.

"Third place in Qatar was a dream but now first in the second race is even better. The race was quite hard for physical condition, many changes of direction. I tried to push but had some problems that I didn't have in the practice with the front. But even like that I was able to push, I was able to keep constant, not so fast but it was enough," said Marquez.

Jorge Lorenzo could do nothing about the HRC machines in third place but did start to come back towards the end, going into the 2'04s late on. He now shares the title lead with Marquez on the same points, same number of race wins and same number of third places.

Cal Crutchlow rode way outside of his own expectations, taking fourth place and setting his own fastest lap of the race on lap ten. He ran off circuit while trying to find a way past the LCR Honda of Stefan Bradl, came back on with a big gap but cut his back in front of the German, HRC-backed rider.

The Monster Yamaha man was lapping faster than Lorenzo for a lot of the second part of the race but his lead was just too much for the Isle of Man resident to jump but he will he happy as his expectations were a sixth at best.

It was a disappointing race for Valentino Rossi who couldn't live with Crutchlow when the Briton re-entered the track in front of him after his excursion and could also do nothing about the pace of Bradl and finished in sixth.

Andrea Dovizioso had a scrap with auld enemy Alvaro Bautista for seventh place, winning out in the final laps while Nicky Hayden took ninth and Andrea Iannone rounded out the top ten. Bradley Smith finished in 12th place to take points.

The CRT battle saw Aleix Espargaro finish top man and 11th overall, a country mile ahead of second placed man Randy De Puniet with Yonny Hernandez third. Britain's Michael Laverty came back from a dreadful first lap to finish in 17th.
