Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow believes that today at the Sachsenring wasn't his time to win his first MotoGP race and says he would rather win it fair and square with all the dogs in the fight.
The British star got to within 1.5s of today's victor Marc Marquez after struggling for grip in the first ten laps, but says he wants to win when both Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo are both in the race.
"In the first laps, me and Valentino struggled so much, we were out of the seat so many times. I'm saying we couldn't get any heat in the tyre but we had no rear grip in the first ten laps and really struggled opening the gas," said Crutchlow, speaking at the Sachsenring.
"I'm not saying we lost the race because of this, we lost it because we can't spin the Yamaha. In the long corners where you need to spin and turn the bike, we spin and it tries to fire us off.
"We have more grip. When you want to go around the corner and you're opening the gas and it's sending you wide, you try to turn more and more to the point where it snaps and tries to flick you off.
"In that sector, Marc can just slide the bike. I think our rear tyre was probably better than theirs, a little, but they can spin. This has never been a Yamaha track. The race speed I think was faster than last year so to finish 1.5s behind - and Jorge finish 14s behind last year - I am really pleased. My bike is no different to his from last year.
"In my condition now, I was pleased to even race. I don't look at this and think I have missed an opportunity to win a race, not at all. I could have looked at Assen and thought the same. I look at it and think it's another podium. I don't like the Sachsenring, it's not my time to win. There are a lot better circuits for me and the Yamaha than here.
"I would hate to win a race that Dani and Lorenzo were not in. I'd rather win it fair and square."
