MotoGP Silverstone: Moto3 points for McPhee

Scotland's John McPhee bounced back from a difficult start to his home Grand Prix weekend to finish 14th in the Moto3 race at Silverstone's MotoGP round.

A much improved race setup enabled the relieved Racing Steps Foundation-backed rider to join a frenetic six-rider battle for 10th and claim his second points-scoring finish in a row.

"The race was definitely a step forward for me The problem we'd had all weekend was gone. The brake stability was good, the front was good, and that meant my corner entry was also good. In short, the bike was ten times better which was a big relief for me after the previous disappointing free practice and qualifying sessions," said McPhee

"The only slight downside was that there was a bit of a lack of feeling at the rear which was OK at the beginning when I had the grip. But as the bike started to slide towards the end it meant I had to back off a bit. But I'm in the points again which is good and hopefully we can kick on from here and make further steps forward in the coming races."

McPhee's fellow RSF-backed riders Kyle Ryde and Wayne Ryan finished 27th and 30th on their maiden Grand Prix appearances.

It was a lonely race for Ryan, who had entertained hopes of finishing in the top 25. The Kent teenager was run wide and off-track by CIP team-mates Alain Techer and Juanfran Guevara who collided at Vale on the opening lap. The early upset consigned him to a solitary race at the back of the field.

"It was an unfortunate incident," said KRP team boss Mark Keen. "Wayne was going round the outside of Guevara into Vale when Techer crashed and it was a case of run the rider over or carry straight on and regrettably that scuppered his race.

"But both riders completed their first Grand Prix and will have learned something from it. Kyle obviously was much quicker today, which was good. So hopefully on the back of the experience they'll be able to move forwards at Albacete next week when they return to the CEV series."
