PBM Aprilia's Michael Laverty has managed to knock a huge chunk off his laptime over the course of the Aragon MotoGP weekend as he re-learns the ART bike he has switched to for the rest of the season.
The Irishman, who has a new crew chief in the shape of Scott Smart, has pulled his pace down from a 1'54.804 yesterday morning to a 1'51.639 this afternoon in qualifying and says there is more to come in warm-up.
"Because the electronics are so different, I have had to adjust my riding style. On the GPMS bike, I had to use a lot of rear brake on corner exit to stop wheelies but doing this on the Aprilia causes problems with the electronics, so I have had to learn to stop doing it as the system automatically holding me back," said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon.
"We have made a big step forward and have some more things to try with the setting and a new swingarm in warm-up so we will see how what that brings. It has also been nice to have other riders' data, especially Espargaro's, to compare with as I haven't had that all year. We only need to find a little bit tomorrow to be on Edwards' pace."
