MotoGP Aragon: Season worst qualifying 'my fault' says Crutchlow

Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow has placed the blame for today's poor MotoGP qualifying performance solely at his own feet, saying he chose the wrong bike setup and the wrong tyres for his riding style at the Aragon track.

The Briton had climbed up the leaderboard during free practice four but mistakes in the final timed session, where he was close to running off track on more than one occasion, saw him slip back to seventh and just two-tenths faster than rookie team-mate Bradley Smith.

"It was my worst qualifying this year, so that was a bad day. But it was my own fault completely, I made a mistake on every single lap, more than one. We need to improve our pace for sure. If I hadn't made any mistakes, then we could have been in the 1'47s with the other guys," said Crutchlow, speaking at ragon.

"Still where we are losing is straight-line speed, I've never known anything like it. Even to Bradley now we are 8kph down on average. We are losing three-tenths in one straight line to Jorge and Jorge is losing probably one to the Hondas. We are in the shit. Our bike is at full power, we can't go any faster.

"We were quite fast in free practice four, which I was pleased with. In qualifying I chose the wrong bike out of the two we had available and I chose the wrong front tyre for my riding style. In three laps I missed running off the track by an inch. I just outbraked myself.

"The laps never came together, which is not usually like me. I can usually put them together when I need to. I did that in FP4 but not qualfying. Having a short drag to the first corner could help us and I have not much to lose now so we will try and get away with the others.

"All four Yamahas will change to the fifth engine tonight, I think. This is where my situation is at. I am changing to what is the last engine. If it was a rocketship, I would agree but Honda are changing to their fourth, it is a rocketship and they have no trouble with fuel."
