Honda BSB team boss Havier Beltran is taking positives from the manufacturer's decision not to race in the series next year, saying the squad can now concentrate on building a strong package for 2015.
It is Beltran's plan to run a single-bike Superstock 1000 outfit with an as-yet-unnamed rider also responsible for the development of the Superbike over the course of next year. They will take in at least three wildcard appearances with a view to him occupying one of two seats in 2015.
"Obviously, to not be in British Superbikes next year is disappointing as we are the reigning champions but there are a lot of positives coming out of this decision already," said Beltran, speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon.
"The development plan for the Fireblade can now almost be accelerated as we can spend next year testing and evaluating, and more than likely taking in three wildcard appearances in 2014. We have test dates booked already which I will still use, we have Marchesini 17in wheels ordered ready for delivery in January and we can now do other things like take the opportunity to change the race transporter which is 14 years-old.
"I intend to run one rider in the Superstock 1000 class and he will also double as the test and development rider for the Superbike into 2014. If we can progress enough, then that person will then get one of the two seats available in 2015 on a seriously competitive package."
