Ducati boss denies input into MotoGP spec-ECU software upgrade

Ducati boss Gigi Dall’Igna has explained changes to the new Open class ECU software but said that his factory did not write the code for the update, but merely put in a request to Dorna who passed it on to manufacturer Magneti Marelli.

It had been believed that Ducati had big input into the upgrade, which is very complicated and has improved channels for corner-by-corner engine braking, and the smaller Open class teams will not be able to use it to its full potential this year. Bur Dall’Igna said this was not the case.

“We asked, like everyone, for some modification on the software, some improvement, based on the experience. We ask to Dorna, and we ask for improvement to traction control and anti-wheelie,” said Dall’Igna, speaking at the team launch.

“I think if the other Open teams work, they can use the new software, it’s quite simple. You can read a manual but you have to practice with it.”

Bikesport News also had a discussion with a former works Yamaha technician last weekend, who has seen the new system, and said it looks a lot like one used by their World Superbike team in 2011.
