Buildbase BMW Ryuichi Kiyonari finally has something to smile about after clinching his first MCE British Superbike pole for years at Knockhill this afternoon, and the rider couldn’t be happier.
The triple champion hasn’t been on form for the past year, but it seems all his bad luck and poor form is finally behind him. It was evident from today’s stellar performance that he has really gelled with the BMW after topping two out of three free practice sessions - and edging Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne to bag that coveted number one spot on the starting grid.
Now the rider hopes he can keep up his fast pace in both races tomorrow and gain some valuable points to push him into the Showdown – and to do that he will have to get on the podium, not once, but twice on Sunday.
“I am very, very happy for this result because last year and the beginning of this year I haven’t qualified very well, but the important day is tomorrow, but I am happy,” said Kiyo at the circuit.
“I have always felt confident in the bike, and I can push every drop out of the bike. The last three rounds were my own fault as I made mistakes, but tomorrow hopefully I can get a good result again.”
