Thruxton BSB: Brookes hails ‘almost perfect’ victory

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes proved to be uncatchable in the opening MCE British Superbike race of the day at Thruxton, and even the Aussie could not find many faults with his stellar performance.

In the end Brookes had a four-second advantage over Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari, and after he overtook Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Dan Linfoot to take the lead. He later powered on ahead and was later unchallenged for the top step of the rostrum.

“It has gone really well, the race was almost perfect, but Dan beat me to the first turn,” said Brookes, speaking moments after he came off the podium.

“The first couple of laps by him were good enough, and he was doing an equally good a job as I would have been doing in that situation, so I sort of sat there and thought it was an opportunity to save the tyre a little bit. Quickly I saw Dan start to loose some of his drive grip, and that is how it unfolded for me.

“When I got out in front I was able to maintain good lap times, unfortunately it was not an exciting race for fans to watch – but it was certainly exciting for me. The general package with the bike is strong enough to put in a good fight for race two.”
