Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes definitely bounced back from crashing out of the first MCE British Superbike free practice session this morning, as he topped FP2 at Oulton Park after a 1’35.878 rotation – the fastest time of the weekend so far. But he is angry with himself after his ‘mistake’ in FP1.
His 'avoidable' crash caused him to take a tumble, and also brought unnecessary work to his team - who were in a race against time to get his bike ready to go back on track.
The Australian got the better of both Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne to head the timesheets, and hopes that he doesn’t have another incident during qualifying and the first race tomorrow.
“I made a mistake passing a rider and got impatient. I was left with less room on the entry to Druids so as a result I was on the side of the tyre, on the wet grass and that doesn’t mix. I was really annoyed to have a crash for no reason and it could have been avoided,” said Brookes.
“We put it behind us, built the bike back up and then concentrated on going quicker. I am happy with where we are though. We have the setting and are tailoring it, so I am ready for tomorrow now.”
