Milwaukee Yamaha’s Tommy Bridewell still can’t believe he has finally got his first MCE British Superbike win at Cadwell Park, and dedicated his emotional victory to his late brother, Ollie.
The Englishman has waited over 130 races to nab the top stop on the podium and did it in spectacular fashion in mixed conditions in race one. The first outing was cut short by a red flag as rain came down on the track, and in the end Bridewell took the win by one-sixth thousandths of a second from Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane Byrne.
But the podiums didn’t stop there as he was able to hold on to take third in the final race of the day at a very wet Lincolnshire track. The double podium means he has firmly secured his place in the Showdown, which is a massive weight off his shoulders, as it means he can focus on getting podium credits for the next round at Donington.
“It is so fantastic to get the win and it was so hard because I put in so much effort, and it has finally paid off. Now I am finally able to say I have had my first race win in BSB, and it feels great. Now I am finally able to say that this trophy is for my brother, and this win is for him,” said Bridewell at the track.
“If someone said at the start of the race weekend that I would take the race win and a third place finish, I would have bitten their hand off for it. But at the end of the day I have secured my place in the Showdown which is really important to me.
"I can go into the next round at Donington without the pressure of the Showdown, and I can focus on podium credits and improving even more.”
