RAF Reserves Honda’s team manager Lee Hardy is still in shock after his team took home their first MCE British Superbike race win, with rider Peter Hickman at Cadwell Park yesterday.
The local Louth lad dominated the final wet race of the day on Monday to charge home his Honda to the top step of the rostrum, and his first patch of podium credits.
It has been a turbulent year for Hardy. He started the season with Simon Andrews, who sadly passed away at the North West 200 earlier this year, but the vacant ride was taken up by Hickman off the back of a successful Isle of Man TT debut.
The team and rider have clicked and the bike is continuing to progress with Hickman at the helm, and Hardy is still ‘lost for words’ over the victory, but knows his team will have to keep up the good form for the remainder of the season.
“I wouldn’t believe anyone if they said that we would get out first race win at Cadwell Park. You couldn’t write this year, it has been unbelievable. I am lost for words and this win is just amazing for the team," said Hardy, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“Peter rides really smooth and it doesn’t look like he is riding in the wet out on track. But we made some changes on the grid and the kid rode so well. His ride has come to him because of unfortunate circumstances, but it is so great that he done so well. We have all gelled so well too, and know we go to Donington, but there is a high standard to keep up now – so we will try our best.”
