PBM’s Michael Laverty is a little disappointed with his grid slot after today’s MotoGP qualifying at Silverstone and says he expected a little more in the final timed session.
The Irishman doesn’t think he will be able to challenge the production Hondas of Camier, Abraham and Aoyama tomorrow but should have the pace to beat the rest of the ex-CRT bikes and is hoping for a little more in the way of warmth.
“We could do with the temperature coming up a little bit which would the bike a little bit nicer to ride but overall I was reasonably happy with that. I took a chunk of time of what I did this morning but I was expecting more,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.
“I have got almost too much grip on the first lap of a new tyre and it pushes the front. On the second lap when I can spin it and steer with the rear we can go faster so my second lap is better and I got held up on my second lap of the first tyre and then only got one lap on the second tyre and that would have only got me one more place on the grid but not near Camier.
“There is a distinct gap between the production Hondas and the ex-CRT bikes. I seem to be consisently quicker than Barbera and Petrucci so realistically we can’t challenge the Hondas this weekend. They are working well.”
