Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot was delighted with a double MCE British Superbike Championship podium at Knockhill despite being pipped on the line for second by JG Speedfit’s James Ellison in the second race.
In a race contested in terrible wet conditions in Scotland, the Honda man vied for the lead throughout the 30-lap second race and at one point looked as if he might add that elusive win to his race one podium.
Unfortunately for Linfoot, Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne had other ideas as he stormed away late on to take victory and to compound matters for the Yorkshireman Ellison took advantage of a late wobble to cross the line ahead of him too.
Although disappointed at losing out on second so late in the race, the Honda rider was thankful for a successful weekend on the Fireblade.
“It’s a lottery like when it’s like that, regardless so to come away with a podium is fantastic for me,” said Linfoot. “It’s my first ever double podium, still not the number one step but hopefully in some months or years that’ll come.
“For now I’m just looking forward to getting to the next race at Snetterton and hopefully continuing some form similar to this and mounting a Showdown challenge again.
“I’m a little bit disappointed that James just pipped me to the line there but the alternative was to be in the gravel, so it’s been a great weekend for us really.
“It was hard work, I’m sure it wasn’t easy for any of us on the podium never mind the guys mid-pack with the spray so I’m just fortunate to go home with no mud on me and in one piece.”
