JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Peter Hickman has set his sights firmly on winning the Riders Cup, after missing out on a place in the MCE British Superbike Showdown by ten points.
The road racing star was part of an historic all team podium during the opening race at Oulton Park on Saturday, and was definitely in contention for a place in the top six. But he did not make it back on to the rostrum in the final two events and finished eighth overall in the standings.
Hickman is naturally disappointed that he has not joined his other team-mates, Leon Haslam and James Ellison in the Showdown, and missed out on maximum points after finishing race two, and three in seventh.
“It’s been a really good weekend, making history yesterday is certainly something we’ll remember for a long time. My pace yesterday was really strong but unfortunately I just couldn’t match that speed today,” said Hickman.
“In the opening race a small problem with the seat unit just meant I struggled with feeling which certainly put me off. For race two the bike was absolutely mint but for some reason I just wasn’t fast.
“It’s certainly disappointing to be so close to the Showdown and miss out but our focus is now solely on being crowned the Riders Champion at the end of the season.”
