EG 0,0 Marc VDS ruled the roost in the third Moto2 Free Practice session at Brno’s MotoGP round this morning.
Leading the way with a time of 2’02.747 was the 2014 World Moto3 champion, Álex Márquez, who was given a medical examination at the start of the session.
Márquez, who only has two Moto2 race victories to his name thus far in his career managed to push his teammate Franco Morbidelli back to second place with fifteen minutes to go in the session.
Márquez’s first lap time which was good enough to pip Morbidelli was a 2’02.802, then went on to lower that lap time by .055 seconds. The following lap the 21-year-old Spaniard went on to record a 2’02.782.
For Morbidelli, a 2’02.842 which he set on lap eight was a solid run for the championship leader as he looks to be back in the grove. However, compared to his teammate, Morbidelli couldn’t produce a string of 2’02 lap times. His only 2’02 lap times came on his eighth and twelfth lap, where Márquez did three laps consecutive in the 2’02 bracket.
SKY Racing Team VR46’s Francesco Bagnaia was third fastest with a time of 2'02.873. Bagnaia was sitting on top of the pecking order early in session who posted a 2’03.254 on lap three. That was short lived when Thomas Luthi ( CarXpert Interwetten) stole the lime light when he went .193 seconds faster. Bagnaia’s fellow countryman Simone Corsi went 0.034 seconds faster than Luthi to hit the top before Bagnaia took back over the lead in the times.
Bagnaia was then overtaken by Morbidelli, before Márquez took the over at the top. Corsi ended the session in fourth, while Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) was fifth fastest, 0.051 seconds behind Corsi.
Luthi was sixth fastest after he posted a 2'03.061. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Swiss rider who lost the frontend of his Kalex machine at turn one while sitting in third place in the time sheets.
Mattia Pasini, who was the pace setter in yesterday’s second free practice session was seventh. He too got a little bit too excited in the session by throwing his Italtrans Racing Team machine down the road at turn five after losing the frontend.
UK’s very own Tarran Mackenzie continues to improve. He posted a 2'05.074 which saw him finishing in twenty ninth position after an early crash.
