Mattia Pasini has delivered the goods in qualifying by snaring his first ever Moto2 pole position after he guided his Italtrans Racing Team Kalex machine to a 2’02.611 in the early part of qualifying this afternoon at Brno’s MotoGP round.
Pasini’s last pole position was 3605 days ago when got pole position in the 125cc class at the Japanese round and said after qualifying that he feels confident as he has a good feeling with the bike and has good pace as well.
However, the weather could be wet tomorrow. So how does Pasini feel about racing in the wet, if it does rain?
“I hope tomorrow will be a dry race because in the wet conditions this track a little bit strange,” said the 31-year-old Italian.
“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. But I’m happy to be starting from pole position,” added Pasini who finished fourth at the Brno round last year.
Missing out on pole position by .032 seconds was Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who completed a total of sixteen laps during the session.
“Tomorrow will be an interesting day in regards to the weather,” said the Portuguese rider. “But I’m ready for both the wet and the dry, so bring it on,” added Oliveira who was the fastest rider in the wet yesterday during free practice one.
Completing the front row of the grid is EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Franco Morbidelli, which is his best qualifying position at the 5.403km circuit.
“I was fast in the beginning and the pace was really good,” explained Morbidelli. “Everything is arranged pretty well for the race tomorrow,” added the championship leader who believes tomorrow’s race will be interesting as a lot of riders have the same amount of pace as each other.
Heading the fourth row of the grid will be Francesco Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46). Lining up next to him sees Spain’s Jorge Navarro and Álex Márquez, who was maybe expecting to be a little bit further up the order after the speed he showed in Free Practice three this morning.
CarXpert Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi will have his work cut out for him as he only managed twelfth place in qualifying after posting a 2'03.214.
Tarran Mackenzie will start from twenty eighth place on the grid after he rode to a 2'04.417 lap time.
