ANDREWS CONSIDERING SCAPHOID SURGERY OPTIONS

MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Simon Andrews is considering two options in an attempt to fix the broken scaphoid bone in his left hand which he only discovered at Knockhill.

The Evesham man had an X-ray at the track's medical centre and discovered he had broken the troublesome bone in a testing spill at Snetterton more than a month ago.

"I have been talking to a few specialists and trying to get as much advice as possible on what to do. I have the choice of laser treatment or a bone graft but we need to evaluate the options as a team," said Andrews, talking in a funny voice to bikesportnews.com this morning.

"The laser treatment stimulates blood flow which should help the bone to knit and that will be followed by a couple of hours in a hyperbaric chamber to increase my white blood cell count.

"Another option is to have a bone graft and that involves surgery. I don't know how long that would leave me off the bike for, so that's a conversation to have with doctors and Nick Morgan (team boss).

"My hand really hurt in the second race at Knockhill and it was dead by the end. But to come away with a fourth and a second while riding with a broken scaphoid is pretty good."
