Team Rapid Solicitors Michael Booth is recovering successfully from his crash at Brands Hatch in the eighth round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 championship which saw him hit by another rider as he lay in the middle of the track.
In addition to breaking his pelvis Booth's spine also detached from his pelvis but fortunately was not broken and already the strength in his legs are returning. Talking about his recovery Booth said: “I am still in a hospital in London, but it is going ok.”
“I am getting about in a wheelchair, it’s six weeks from the operation until I am able to put weight onto my legs and it’s already been three. It’s hard especially this weekend not being at Cadwell as I want to be there, but we will get there.”
Booth highsided on the exit of Druids corner and was almost avoided until the last but one rider of the pack that surrounded him made contact. Talking about the incident he said: “There has been some comments on the BSB forum that the race was not stopped soon enough, but I would like to thank all the medical and officials at the meeting.”
“I feel they could not have done anymore and were great with how they handled me. The thing is it is not always the best thing to do stopping a race straight away, you know there are 40 people on the grid if you stop to soon it could also be a danger.”
This may have abruptly ended his 2009 season, but Booth is already raring to go in 2010 which will now see him join the Senior Superstock grid with his current team. “We have discussed a lot of things which even included doing both Superstock categories, but I don’t think as a rider I am up to both and it would be hard work on the team,” Booth told www.bikesportnews.com this morning.
“I would feel better on a 1000cc because of my size and I feel it is more sorted to my riding style. I was really please when my manager rang me up and said they had decided on the Superstock 1000cc. I think Rapid solicitors should be continuing on with me next season and hopefully we can get things sorted for next year. A major thanks to all that have supported me.”
