Brands BSB: Bathams confident of Rutter's return

Bathams Honda team owner Ian Woollacott is confident that his rider Michael Rutter will take part in the MCE British Superbike qualifying at Brands Hatch tomorrow.

The veteran racer is still recovering from a crash which saw him crack a bone in his leg, whilst testing for the Honda TT Legends World Endurance team. The Honda rider was also a no show today during the free practice sessions, but Woollacott said riding in freezing conditions would not have benefited the rider in anyway.

“Michael, as everyone knows has had a nasty injury, he seems to be recovering fine. I did not think there was anything to gain by putting him out on the bike today, because it is still cold. We have had a chat and Michael is going to have a go tomorrow, and hopefully everything is going to be OK. If it is not, we will respect that and we will have another go at the next meeting.” Said Woollacott, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

Woollacott’s other rider; Tommy Bridewell was one of the few competitors to brave the snowy conditions and take part in both practice sessions today. The Devizes lad ended the day third in the timesheets, and continues to improve.

“Tommy seems to have settled in quite nicely, and he is riding well. We found a good set-up for this afternoon and we finished in third, and we can’t ask for more. Things can only get better, and it is a good base start. We had a year out last year so this is all a bit new to us; some of the regulations are a bit different from 2011 from the last time we ran, so to be fair we are quite pleased. Everybody has seemed to settle in, Tommy has settled in and that is a good platform to start from.”

“Realistically we want to be in the final eight, but to be honest it is still very early in the season, and we are still getting ourselves settled in, but we should be there or there a bout's.”

Woolacott has been away from the MCE British Superbike paddock for a year, and is glad to be back getting his hands dirty once again. “It is nice to be back, without a doubt. It was very difficult for me last year as I had to sit it out. Every session I watched on the TV or on my computer, so some weekends I was sat in front of the box. But it is fantastic to be back.” Said Woollacott.
