Brands BSB: Hopkins fractures vertebrae in qualifying crash

Former MotoGP star John Hopkins will miss the rest of the MCE British Superbike race weekend at Brands Hatch after he experienced a fast crash on the Moto Rapido Ducati during qualifying.

The American has been up the sharp end all race weekend and made it all the way to Q3. He then had a massive off at Paddock Hill Bend and the red flags were brought out as Hopkins was taken to the medical centre on a stretcher.

The Panigale rider is now at Kings Hospital for further assessment, and has a fractured L2 vertebra and has  fractures to both knees.

"John has broken bones in his lower back and broken both his knees. He is now being transferred to hospital for some more scans and treatment. Thanks to the MSV medical team," said team boss, Steve Moore.
