Be Wiser Ducati's Glenn Irwin ended the final MCE British Superbike race at Brands Hatch in fourth, and that impressive result made up for the earlier crash that he had in race one.
He fell unhurt while in sixth at Paddock Hill Bend, dashing any hopes of a podium. But he got back on his Panigale and was even matching the pace of his more experienced team-mate, Shane Byrne out on the GP circuit, and a mini Be Wiser battle ensued.
In the end Byrne was the eventual race winner, but Irwin showed he had the package to challenge his garage buddy, and after finding he had slight front end issues in the first race, his team worked
hard to solve the problem and the bike was improved for race two.
"First race was disappointing, because I had a bad feeling from the front end and the track temperature was way up and I should have just settled, and I was settling and in a moment of daftness I braked too hard," said Irwin, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
"It was quite clear that the feeling was not good and it would have been much nicer to arrive to the guys after the race with a fifth or sixth to say the front end is not so good, lets fix it, but instead I gave them a lot of work [after the crash].
"Both bikes we both made different changes and my bike felt really good. It was a good fight with Shakey, and to get some solid points and it is surreal to be battling with those guys and I am dreaming still at the moment."
