McAMS Yamaha's Tarran Mackenzie bounced back from a fast crash in the opening Bennetts British Superbike race at Brands Hatch to secure his best-ever result in the second outing.
The youngster fought his way through to fifth place after a first-lap mugging and says he and the team have taken a massive step forward over the weekend.
"It was my fault, I got into Hawthorn a bit hot and lost the front. I had my bottom lip out all the way until race two but I wanted to make amends. My start was OK but I got mugged a little bit and it took me a while to get into my rhythm," said Mackenzie, speaking at the track.
"I had to pass quite a few riders and in the last five laps I was chasing Jake. I started catching him but I think he knew I was coming so he picked up the pace. It was a top five, my best-ever result and I've pretty much been in the top five all weekend so it's a massive step forward for me and the team so all credit to them.
"I'm not going to say I'm over the moon because I would have liked a podium but we've got a few more races to try for that."
