Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey has done something that no MCE British Superbike rookie has ever done before in their debut season, and that is to win the Riders Cup.
The 22-year-old had a strong final round at Brands Hatch with a sixth place finish in the last race at the Kent track. Mossey has had a good maiden season in the top class which has led to a string of solid results and podium finishes across the year.
Mossey had a tough start to the season, but he battled through and gelled with his ZX-10R, but he still can’t quite believe that he finished seventh overall, and bagged the Riders Cup accolade to take home his first piece of BSB silverware.
“At the start of the year I was nearly ready to pack it in as I didn’t think I was cut out for this Superbike job - but now I am speechless and so happy,” said Mossey, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
“The start of the year I had a massive crash in qualifying and then in Oulton we didn’t even make it into the top twenty in qualifying and I was struggling adapting to this bike.
“But then to get regularly in the top six and getting two podiums - it has been a great rookie year and I could not ask for a better season. “
