Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran was so narrowly close to finishing on the second step of the podium, during the MCE British Superbike race two at Brands Hatch, and was pipped by JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam by the smallest of margins - a tiny 0.006s to be exact.
The Australian had a good points haul at the GP track and made up for just missing out on a rostrum spot in race one, after losing ground to Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey to bag fourth place.
O’Halloran felt comfortable onboard the Fireblade and was so close to winning his second ever BSB race after getting the hole-shot and dominating in the final outing. He is firmly inside the top six in third in the overall standings on 175 points.
“After the first race to come back and finish third was much better. We had a strong pace all weekend and unfortunately I messed up Superpole yesterday and made the first race hard for ourselves. But coming back here this afternoon I led most of the race and felt really comfortable," said O’Halloran, speaking at the track.
“The bike was working great and we made a few tweaks from the first race and it was working well. Leon came by and we had a bit of a tussle and the safety car came out and then after the safety car Shakey got us both on the first corner and that was pretty much done for me.
“I came around and I thought the flag was going to come out and then I saw a board saying there’s two laps to go and I thought lets have another push and see if I can get second. I tried really hard and the last lap was one of my fastest laps of the race and I just missed out and to be third is another podium credit and another chunk of points towards the showdown, and happy to be back on the podium.”
