MCE BRITISH SUPERBIKES
Chris Walker – Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha (Q=7th, R1=9th, R2=DNF, R3=12th)
"With the new three race format here this weekend we were always catching up with set up time, saying that it is the same for the rest of the guys. It has been a weekend to forget, with a puncture in the Saturday race, a bike failure in the second race and no grip in the 3rd race I'm worn out. We re-group for our local race at Cadwell in a couple of weeks and hopefully get back to the front"
Graeme Gowland – Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha (Q=12th, R1=DNF, R2=9th, R3=13th)
"A pretty frustrating weekend, I had the best feeling with the bike all through Saturday and in the first race, I don't know what happened in the last race, I lost all front end grip and really had to ride carefully. Tough weekend for our team and we will have to get heads together for the next race.”
Tommy Hill – Worx Crescent Suzuki (Q=5th, R1=5th, R2= R2=4th, R3=7th)
“This wasn’t the worst day, but it wasn’t the best either. We made progress in the first race today and being so close to getting the podium really fired me up for that second race. But right from the start I knew it wasn’t to be as I’d lost a load of feeling in the front. I knuckled down and I really didn’t want to lose places but it was a very difficult race. Definitely, these are not the results we race for.”
Peter Hickman – Ultimate Racing (Q=16th, DNF, R2=20th Cup=4th, R3=20th Cup=4th)
“It’s been a bit of a testing weekend for us so far, I was really looking forward to my races here at Brands Hatch; I have always gone well on the full GP circuit. But unfortunately nothing went my way this weekend, the mapping on the engine wasn’t right because we have only had the new engine a few days so I am got nowhere fast, it’s very frustrating. In the first race I lost the rear end going into Druids and it spun straight round on me.”
“It’s a bit of a shame really that we could only manage fourth again in the second race. In the first race I was third for a while but they just passed me going in a straight line. Literally nobody has passed me round a turn all weekend; it’s always been down the straight, basically because we are on a standard engine. If we could get the funds and the engine done properly I know I can run within the top 10 of the main British Superbike championship.”
Tommy Bridewell – Team NB (Q=25th, R1=DNF, R2=DNF, R3=DNS)
“We've had problems with the electronics all weekend and it's been extremely frustrating to have ended with two non finishes and a blown engine. The whole point of me being here this year is to put myself in the shop window and by not finishing races it doesn't allow me to do that. We now have to go away and see exactly what the situation is and hopefully we can get everything sorted out in time for Cadwell as I really do feel I'm riding well enough to be challenging a lot further up the field than I have been this weekend.”
Tom Tunstall – Hardinge Doodson Motorsport
(Q=17th, R1=18th Cup=3rd, R2=19th Cup=3rd, R3=18th Cup=3rd)
“It's great to be on the podium again. As the race went on the bike was vibrating more and more but I was determined to get third. It’s my first double podium of the year and I’ll be trying hard to make it three in a row.”
“In race two I worked very hard for that one. It's frustrating not to have got second as it was so close and I proved I had the pace with the fastest lap. But I’m really pleased to have got three rostrums, I love the track – I’d be happy to have four races here. It has been a busy weekend though and the team have worked really hard, done a great job and they deserve this champagne too.”

Steve Plater – H M Plant Honda (Q=5th, R=3rd)
“I just got pipped by Billy on the last lap which was not really what I needed. Before the pace car came out I had a good gap between myself in second and Ben Wilson in third. But unfortunately the pace car allowed them to make up the deficit. After the car went back in I got my head down but it wasn’t enough.”
“I knew that someone was very close to me on the last lap and that he would be attacking but wasn’t quite sure where. Its just one of those things but it’s a bit frustrating when I had done all the hard work to get through to second and was chasing after the leader and then got beat on the last lap. Billy has gained a few points on me but at least Ben Wilson hasn’t as he finished behind me so we can go forward and push on to Cadwell and see what happens there.”
Ben Wilson – Gearlink Kawasaki (Q=3rd, R=4th)
“I am a little bit disappointed as I thought we were on for a second place there but it wasn’t to be, we have proved we can be up there battling at the front and fourth is a good result, both for myself and the Gearlink Kawasaki team who have worked so hard again this weekend to provide me with a great package. I picked up another good set of championship points and am still in third place overall which is pretty good. We can move on to the next round at Cadwell and see how we go there.”
Billy McConnell – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=2nd, R=2nd)
“That was a tough race and we had front end problems all weekend but Andy, Johnny and K-Tech all worked really hard to get it sorted. I got a good start and then got hammered by everyone; I ran wide and was over the grass at one point.”
“Then the safety car came out too, my tyre cooled down a bit so I actually had better feel. On the last lap I knew I had to wait for the right moment, then I got the drive and he knew I was there so I braked as late as I could and got my head down. I just kept working on getting good drive and waiting for him to try and pass. It was good points for the championship so I’m really pleased.”
Allan Jon Venter – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=19th, R=8th)
We made a change after warm-up to a new clutch so it was bit of a gamble. On the first lap the bike spat me out of the seat and I lost about five places. I decided to switch to a different map and it was ideal. I felt good and my times were matching the leaders I just need to do them in qualifying. A big thank you to Jason, MAP and all my sponsors. I’m looking forward to Cadwell Park now, it is a bit of a motocross track and I enjoy it. I need to get qualifying sorted out and get a result.”
Lee Johnston – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=13th, R=DNF)
“I was catching the leaders and I’d been concentrating on saving my tyre for later in the race but unfortunately my bike had a fault and that was my race over. I’m just staying positive and looking forward to Cadwell Park.”
Dan Linfoot – Node 4 Yamaha (Q=4th, R=DNF)
"I'm gutted, we had a good race set up and I was running with the guys no problem, we knew Westy [James Westmoreland] on the Triumph was strong so I was keen to get away from him and run out front, after a few laps we all got mixed in a battle and I felt OK. The pace car slowed us all down for a couple of laps and I got caught out with the cooler left hand side of the tyre. Rubbish for us all. Spider and the team worked great and I was so keen to give myself and the team another podium, ah well it's over now, no injuries and Cadwell to look forward to and some luck for our team."
Daniel Cooper – Centurion Racing (Q=7th, R=DNF)
"I'm gutted to have crashed as it's my first DNF this season. I was feeling really good on the bike and was hoping for a good result this weekend as everything felt good. I'm just disappointed really as I needed to be consistent and keep getting good results. Thankfully I'm not injured and hope the boys that did get injured have a speedy recover! I've got to move forwards now to Cadwell Park and aim to get back on form there, I can only think my tyres didn't have enough heat in them after the pace car was out and I just tucked the front. I'm sorry to the Centurion team and just looking forward to Cadwell now."
BJ Toal – Centurion Racing (Q=25th, R=14th)
"I've been made to feel really welcome by the entire Centurion team and I really like the way the team works and how it went this weekend. It wasn't the result I was hoping for as I really wanted to be top ten but know I can't rush these things. This is really the first time I've had much track time on the Centurion Honda so it's like learning again. It's good though and I'm really fired up for the remaining rounds of the season. I'd like to thank the team again for taking me on board and hope I can get them good results in the last few rounds."”
RELENTLESS BRITISH 125GP
Brian Clark – Banks Racing/Express Racewear (Q=7th, R=5th)
‘WOW, what a race, the result could have been so much more and we were so close which is encouraging. The bike performed really well and we were in very good company today, those bikes around us are heavily kitted in comparison so to be in touch right to the end is great. A few minor gearbox changes would have helped but missing Fridays’ session maybe cost us a podium today?”
“I made a few errors on the last lap just trying to have a last push at Martin [Glossop] so was glad to keep Robbie [Stewart] at bay, the last thing I wanted today was to finish sixth again. I really expected be able to end the podium drought this weekend but you can never be sure of anything in racing so we’ll take today as a good result and try to build on it for Cadwell on August Bank Holiday weekend, another of my favourite circuits. Hopefully all our supporters enjoyed the race and as always we’re grateful for their support, all of them”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 600
Johnny Blackshaw – Team HARIBO Starmix (Q=19th, R=14th)
“After a precautionary trip to the physio, I was in great shape for the race. And my race start was awesome. I was immediately up to 15th into the first corner, but sadly the race was stopped; red-flagged due to an incident that had left an injured rider on track. The race re-start meant we had to do it all over again.”
“All in all, I was pleased with the weekend. I had done what I’d set out to do. I’d won some race points. And more importantly, I had shown the team that I’m almost 100% fit now and ready to take it up to the front again. There’s a lot more to come from me. And I still have four race meetings in 2009, to prove that I can do it.”
Jack Groves – Team HARIBO Starmix (Q=30th, R=24th)
“Morning warm up on the Sunday was good for me, I was immediately able to match my best qualifying time, that one new gear-change on the back-sector gave me a much better drive out of the corner. I was now ready for the race. But we weren’t scheduled to race until quarter past five on Sunday; that would be torture. I spent the whole of race day watching all the other races. This was good and instructive to watch, but after watching just one race I just wanted to be out there.”
“I’ve learned lots this weekend, I must perfect my qualifying performance far sooner. The team worked really well for me throughout this weekend, and the bike performed brilliantly. I am so looking forward to Cadwell Park. Cadwell has been a great racetrack for me, and as we’ll be practicing there this Wednesday I’ll soon have even greater confidence of a good weekend there.”
Nikki Coates – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=8th, R=5th)
“It is a shame I got arm pump as it was a good race until that point. I felt comfortable and confident for a podium finish. I’m pleased to get a good results but a podium would have been better. I’m looking forward to getting to Cadwell Park after that result.”
Luke Jones – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=15th, R=6th)
“I got a great start and when my tyres started to work I was able to catch up to the next group. I tried to pass but they kept shutting the door on me and letting the brakes off. It was a crash or hold the place kind of move. Every time they made a mistake I got the worst of if. I’ve got mixed feelings about my result today as going from 15th to sixth place is good but I want to do much better. We are testing at Cadwell Park on Wednesday so it will be good to get the bike set up so we go there with a bit of an advantage.”
Mike McClean – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=16th, R=12th)
“I’m pretty happy with my MAP Raceways Yamaha it is really working well at the moment. I’m pleased to have finally scored some points, it has taken a while. I’ve never actually raced at Cadwell as I broke my wrist there last year and couldn’t race. I’m doing the test on Wednesday so that will help.”
Cody Nally – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=27th, R=22nd)
“The race wasn’t too bad, I made a few little mistakes and then my rear tyre went off. I’d been running in 20th until that point. I feel more confident now and I’m looking forward to Cadwell.”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 1000
Richard Cooper – Team Co-Ordit (Q=3rd, R=4th)
“We’ve been strong all weekend, and although this was still a good result I still feel a little robbed with the second red flag. I made a couple of mistakes in the race but was still in a strong position to take the podium position that the team deserved.”
FOCUSED EVENTS KTM RC8
Ritchie Thornton – TA Creative Ltd/P&H Motorcycles (Q=14th, R1=12th, R2=9th)
“I wanted a top ten finish today, nothing less. To achieve that I knew I would have to produce consistent 1.34s laps. It would have to be a whole second faster than Saturday’s times, but once I settled in I felt that me, and the bike, were more than up to it”.
“I’m very happy after this weekend, but totally exhausted with the heat. I achieved what I set out to do I got in the top ten at last , I have scored valuable points, which put me back in the top 15 of the championship and went even quicker than I thought doing it. I’d like to thank my pit crew for all their hard work this weekend and the support from my KTM sponsor Tony Woodhams of P&H Motorcycles.”
