Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes was well under the Cadwell Park lap record in MCE British Superbrike testing today at the Lincolnshire circuit, putting in a fastest time of 1’26.1 which is almost a second faster than his previous best and four-tenths under the 2007 mark.
The Australian rider currently sits atop the championship points table and will want to extend his 12-point advantage over reigning champion Shane Byrne but said that parts of Cadwell need some attention as bumps are becoming a serious problem.
“Today was really positive as I set my fastest ever lap time at Cadwell so we got the bike working well but we made quite a lot of changes to it in order to get there,” said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
“We moved the bike around quite a lot but ended with a 1’26.1 and my fastest before that was a 1’27.0 I think, so we should be in good shape. I had made some observations before about the bumps in the left-right before the Mountain, which are getting worse, and a really big bump going through Charlie’s.
“Parts of the track at the Gooseneck and Mansfield have been re-surfaced but now they’re bumpy too, particularly Mansfield as you’re already putting a lot of weight on the front and they really kick the rear into the air now. But I supposed it’s a double-edged sword as we managed to get the bike to work really quickly around there so I guess it’s an advantage over people who will have to find a setup on race weekend.”
