BSB Donington Park | "I came here to win..." - Ryde celebrates Donny double

Kyle Ryde became the most winningest rider of this year’s British Superbike Championship at the weekend, taking his second and third wins at Donington Park, not only his local circuit but also his favourite on the calendar.

Those wins came in the first and third races of the weekend and although he missed out on the hat-trick after crashing out of the lead of the second, he still scored more points than anyone else to close to within ten points of the championship lead.

“I came here to win races this weekend and I won both races I finished so I’ve got to be pleased with that,” the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider told BSN.

“I made a little mistake in the second race, but I’m loads more consistent this year, never finishing lower than seventh, so I’m on the right page.”

Ryde took full advantage of Yamaha’s strengths around the 2.5-mile GP circuit leading both races he won from start to finish, never allowing the following Tommy Bridewell to make an overtaking attempt.

“It’s a good track for the Yamaha and I was able to look after the tyres well whilst I was also strong out of Coppice, opening enough of a gap each lap so Tommy couldn’t get by me coming into the Esses. To get two wins at my favourite track and in front of all my friends and family is really pleasing.”

“The bikes are all pretty even and have their strengths and weaknesses at different places and at different tracks and the riders at the front are the ones I expected to be fighting with. Leon (Haslam) is always a fighter whilst the likes of Tommy, Glenn (Irwin) and Josh (Brookes) have been doing it for years. They’re all great people to race against.”
