Leon Morris has been allowed to start from the back of the grid for tomorrow's races at Oulton Park this weekend after only managing half a lap in qualifying to a electrical fault.
 
Morris is still suffering from his crash at Mallory Park in which he broke his collar bone. He said: “The shoulder's not good, I only did five laps yesterday and one today so at the moment it's been bearable and also in the wet, which is easier physically, even though not mentally.”
 
The main reason he has not had much track time this weekend is due to extreme setup issues, he said: “The bike was severely damaged and we've had a lot of setup problems to get the bike back right. With my injury we have been unable to test so this was the first time back on it.”
 
Talking about his crash three weeks ago he said: “Some people have said the wheel shattered, but I don't think so. I think that I ran out of road coming out of Stapletons, hit the rumble strip and that was that. It was a big crash as I ended up down by Edwina's.”
 
Even though things are not running smooth for the 21 year old Stockbridge rider, he could not be more positive about the 'Airwaves Superbike Scholarship' of which he was chosen. At the beginning of the season Morris was overjoyed with this opportunity and half way through the season it's better than he imagined.
 
He said: “The scholarship is really good, I have been overwhelmed with how much I have been helped. I was a bit concerned that I would become that person that whenever they saw me it would be a bit 'oh no him again', but it's completely opposite.”
 
“Whatever I have asked they have given to me and much more. I was only scheduled three meetings with Colin Wright and I have seen him twenty times. There is no money or parts involved and some of the setup can't be used because the bike is completely different to the factory bikes so it is irrelevant. But anything else they can do they will.”
 
Experiencing the bad side of racing Morris still intends to focus on the positive come the race he said: “I want to ride to get two finishes and pick up some points. I am disappointed to not have had a go at qualifying, but the Airwaves Kick up a Gear award is about how many places you make up and that is the only way I can go.”
