It was Airwaves Ducati one, two with Leon Camier taking the top step for the first time of the season ahead of Shane Byrne and the blue Rizla Suzuki of Tom Sykes. Close racing isn't enough to describe the battle between the team mates through the last couple of corners before the chequered flag.
Leon Haslam on the HM Plant Honda took the lead into the first corner followed by Camier, Sykes, whilst Shane Byrne and Cal Crutchlow didn't have the best of starts as they were sat down in sixth and eighth.
Haslam lead until lap four until Camier made his move at the the Esses, Shakey had clawed his way back up to the fourth and Michael Laverty who started in eight on the grid in fifth. By lap six the battered Crutchlow, who crashed on Friday had moved up to fifth and was without a doubt part of the leading group.
On lap eight you could see Tom Sykes looking to make his move from third, but Shakey wasn't going to sit behind him even after having an out of seat moment when he went wide coming out of the Bomb Hole onto the concrete.
Three quarters of the way into the race Byrne went under Sykes at Russells to take third and Haslam visibily wanted to make his move to then make his lunge at the Esses to take the lead, but Camier fought back in exactly place the same two laps later to regain the position.
Haslam's luck went down hill from there as when Byrne went up on the inside of him at Russell Bend taking second place Haslam went onto the green turf, narrowingly missing Tom Sykes as he rejoined the track and forcing him down to fifth behind his team mate Cal Crutchlow as they started the next lap.
This was when the battle of the Airwaves began and Shakey clearly had no intention to settle for second. Come the final lap Shakey tried to make his move at the Esses, Camier lead on the entry, but Byrne attacked from the right briefly taking the lead before losing it on the exit. Not giving his team mate any opportunity Camier took his first race win for Colin Wright on the Ducati 1098R.
Mid-way through the race with Stuart Easton of Hawk Kawasaki out due to broken wrist the battle of the Kawasaki's was between his team mate Billy McConnell and Hawk Kawasaki rider Scott Smart. Unfortunately on lap 13 smoke poured from the exhaust of Scott Smart's ZX10-R forcing him to retire.
Bad luck continued for Guy Martin with a technical fault, his team mate James Ellison who started from a disappointing 10th finished 7th followed by AIM Yamaha Karl Harris who picked up some more points in eight position.
The battle of the Daily Star Cup was won by Gary Mason of Quay Honda Racing, the second for the team in only his second weekend with them and after a constant battle all the way to the finish line with John Laverty of North West 200 who took second and SMT Honda replacement Marshall Neill. Tom Tunstall rounded off the top three for the cup championship behind Laverty.
