BSB SNETTERTON: SEELEY RETURNS FROM AMA SUCCESS

Alastair Seeley returns to the British circuit of Snetterton this weekend to continue his Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship battle following great success at the North West 200 and a debut ride in the AMA Superstock 1000 and Superbike last week.
Returning to the North West 200 Seeley took first place within the Superstock complimented by two second places in the Supersport 600. The Carrickfergus rider started road racing in 2000 after starting off on a 125cc he progressed onto a 600cc.
He has won numerous races along the way as well as the Irish Superbike and Supersport Championship in 2006. He said: "The North West 200 went really well, I went for JMF, they asked me to come on board and I got a few rides at the beginning of the year back home in Ireland just to get dialled in on the bikes and get some sort of setup."
"I chose my races really carefully to have a race in between each one so I could come back to the awning, have a bit to eat and think about things. I think next year I will chose the same races, it went really well, the team were really pleased.
"It was good to be involved and good it stayed dry and to top it all off, to stand on top of the podium besides the TAS boys, Bruce Anstey he's really Mr superstock and to take his crown away from him was good."
Following his success he was given the opportunity to compete within the AMA, Seeley said: "The team manager of Team Celtic racing was at the North West for the first time this year spectating and because I rode for him back in 06 he was pretty impressed with the results and asked me if I would come out to America for the AMA superstock races."
"We actually did the Superbike races on the Superstock bike to get more track time and get a feel for the track and everything went well there as well. I was a bit dubious about using Dunlops as I've always used Pirelli's, but that was what the team were contracted to, but never found it to be a problem."
"We got the bike setup, the team worked well over there, the mechanics worked well and we got a good base setting. I qualified fourth row in Superbike races, third for the Superstock. In the Superstock race I got away in second, Aaron Yates passed me and I was in third."
"Two laps from the end Valentino Pedro passed me and I couldn't fight back as the bike was sliding all over the place. He had traction control coming out of the corners, his bike was just pulling away from me so I had to settle for fourth, but it's my best ever AMA result. Also two top tens in the Superbike races, the team were pleased with them."
Now back racing for the Team Rea Estates Racing Yamaha, Seeley aims to improve on his frustrating although positive regular fourth places, he wants a podium spot. Currently sitting fourth within the championship Seeley qualified sixth for Sunday's race, a mere six thousandth off pole position.
He said: "This year is going pretty well, last year was a big year for me, learning all the new tracks. I would say 75% of the tracks were pretty new to me last year. Not qualifying at the first round at Brands last year, I didn't really want to go through that procedure again of sitting at the side lines so I just dug in and two thirds to the end of the season things started getting better."
"I think consistency wins championships and if I can try and break up to the likes of Brogan and Kirkham. if I can claw them back and be pacing with them even challenging for that win then I will be happy. Things are going well, got a good team this year, it's a small setup but it's a family orientated thing. Things are progressing and doing justice for me and the team."
Not interested in participating in the TT regarding his future Seeley said: "I will just concentrate on the North West as my only road racing. the short circuits is my main priority as in career wise, I wanna try to go up the ladder and hopefully at some stage ride for a factory team in Superbikes or Supersports."
"If I got an invitation to any of the next rounds in the AMA, if they don't clash with BSB I'd jump at the chance at the end of the day it's more races and racing on TV as well as another opportunity to go out there."  For more information log onto www.alastairseeleyracing.co.uk.
