CADWELL BSB: LEARNING CURVE FOR TINMOUTH

Jenny Tinmouth had a challenging weekend aboard her Hollins Motorsport backed Honda CBR600RR, in round nine of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire on Bank Holiday Monday, eventually crashing out of the race while battling for position.

The 2.18-mile technically and physically demanding circuit proved to be a real test for the Ellesmere Port rider, but after some adjustments to the suspension, she gained more confidence through the fast corners at Coppice and Charlie’s, and the quick left
right flick through Hall Bends on the mountain section.

Qualifying proved very eventful for Tinmouth; she was in 31st place after the first session, which was held in wet conditions.

“I wanted to get a last flyer of a lap,” she remarked, “but didn’t get to the start/finish in time, and the chequered flag came out.”

Final qualifying was held in full dry conditions, but 15 minutes into the session with Jenny lying in a disappointing last place, the session was red flagged, due to smoke drifting across the circuit from a fire in the public camp site. Upon the re-start, Tinmouth was the first to leave pit lane, in a determined attempt to qualify, and this proved fruitful, posting a time of 1 minute 34.015 seconds, at an average speed of 83.47mph, her best ever lap of Cadwell Park, placing her in 35th position on the grid for the race.

A satisfied Jenny said: “I’m pretty chuffed with that, just to qualify was my main objective around such a physical track as Cadwell, and my time would have put me 28th on last season’s Supersport grid.”

Jenny initially made a good start to the race, but an incident involving James Dye and David Paton at Charlie’s on the first lap brought out the red flag. After a lengthy stoppage, Tinmouth once again got away well, and after a handful of laps, began to reel in Ben Handley, however, this proved somewhat short lived as whilst pushing hard, the front tucked on the downhill approach to Mansfield corner, and it was game over.

Tinmouth now sits in ninth place in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup with three rounds remaining. She will be back in action at Croft, North Yorkshire, for round ten over the weekend of September 12-14.

Speaking afterwards, Jenny explained: “I have taken loads of positives from the weekend, I learnt a lot with changes in suspension and getting to grips with the limits of my bike. I knew I would struggle a bit around Cadwell as it is such a demanding track, but I’m pleased with my lap times, and feel we have made progress, and now I’m looking forward to Croft in three weeks time.”

Jenny, her team, sponsors, and associates all send their best wishes to James Dye for a complete and speedy recovery.

Special thanks go to Andy Sutherland for assisting with funds to enable Jenny to race at Cadwell Park.
