PBM Kawasaki's Shane Byrne has had a 'difficult' MCE British Superbike weekend so far at Cadwell Park, and even though he found some pace in Q1 earlier today he wasn't able to find that extra hundredths of a second to pull him in to the final qualifying outing, to fight for that coveted pole position.
In the opening qualifying session Byrne did his best lap of the weekend - a 1'27.559 to go P3 and on the provisional front row, but in Q2 he couldn't find that pace to get into the top three, let alone the top ten.
It has been a struggle for the reigning champ this weekend and he has been off the pace throughout the free practice sessions, where he finished eleventh on the combined timesheets.
"It has been a really difficult weekend. I am so, so, so relived - when things have gone so bad and when you see a glimmer of light and you think we are finally through and making progress," said Byrne at the track.
"But basically I did my lap in the second qualifying and my time showed a 1'27.32 and before I went out I saw a few other riders doing 27'3's I thought that time would put me up two or three places, and I thought we would be in - job's a dream.
"But I came around and saved my tyre and I came in and then I saw P11 and we just got pipped. The fact we are talking about lap times in the 1'26's and having a good race pace after the start we had has left me happy today."
