MCE BRITISH SUPERBIKES
Leon Camier – Airwaves Yamaha (Q=1st, R1=1st, R2=DNQ)
“It felt really good to stand on the top step in Race One, especially after having so much bad luck here in the past. But of course I'm really disappointed about being disqualified from Race Two. I felt more comfortable on the bike, my lap times were better, and everything seemed to be going exactly to plan. Unfortunately I misinterpreted the rules; it's just one of those things. I'm really pleased for James and for Airwaves Yamaha. At least it was another double win for the team. I can't wait to get to Croft now."
James Ellison – Airwaves Yamaha (Q=8th, R1=3rd, R2=1st)
“I was a little bit disappointed with the end result of Race One. It was just so difficult to pass Stuart Easton. I knew that in Race Two I would have to pass him straight away, else I'd get held back again. I put everything into the move to pass him, and prayed that the bike would turn in, which thankfully it did.”
“I then tried to chase down Leon. I wanted to see where he was quicker than me, and see what I could learn. I feel sorry for Leon being disqualified from the race. He has ridden superbly all season, and in particular this weekend. But I'm pleased that I managed to close the gap to him in the Championship and that the win stayed within the Airwaves Yamaha team.”
Sylvain Guintoli – Worx Crescent Suzuki (Q=7th, R1=8th, R2=7th)
“I could feel I was race rusty in that first race, three times I was on the grass when trying to make passes early in the race. I had to ease off and that actually helped – I got faster. At the end I was catching Karl Muggeridge very quickly, but it was right at the end and I ran out of laps and corners to make the pass.”
“With less mistakes in that second race I was a lot closer on time to the leaders but I had to be careful how hard I could ride as for sure this is not a good time to fall again on my leg. As it is, I can really feel it now and I'm glad I get two more weeks to rest my leg before the next round at Croft. For me it was still a good weekend and I'm really excited to be back. I've got back into the racing and I'm looking forward to being more competitive still when I get to Croft."
Graeme Gowland – Motorpoint Hendersons (Q=20th, R1=19th, R2=DNS)
“I am totally gutted, up until the crash I was feeling the best all year, the bike was coming good and I was getting to grips with the circuit. I really wanted to get a good grid position and got caught out pushing a bit too hard through the downhill Mansfield corner section. Its racing I guess and I'll pick myself up for Croft and try again.”
Chris Walker – Motorpoint Henderson (Q=10th, R1=11th, R2=6th)
“Around this track you need to be very confident with your bike and I just could not get that feeling, I managed to get some decent starts but with the track being so narrow there is always a bit of a barging about and I got messed up in the first race and lost my start advantage. Sixth in race two was OK considering and I want to thank the boys who have worked hard for me all weekend.”
Jon Kirkham – Node 4 Yamaha (Q=19th, R1=16th, R2=15th)
“That was a really tough weekend, I did not help myself when I crashed on Saturday and slapped my sore hand! I guess gaining some points would have been a bonus, I was battling with the guys but to be honest I was feeling pretty tired. This was great for my re hab and I am sure Croft will be better for me.”
Tommy Bridewell – Team NB (Q=17th, R1=13th, Cup=2nd, R2=10th Cup=2nd)
"If anybody can ride this old girl any harder than that then they're welcome to give it a go. We just need to make sure we have the budget to do Croft as the engine blow up made a big dent in it but after this weekend I'm pretty sure that given half a chance we can get inside the top ten once again overall and take the game to Gary Mason and the Quay Garage Honda team. It's been a good weekend at Cadwell and our intention is to continue our strong results towards the end of the season but I'm looking at wins rather than podiums from now on.”
Peter Hickman – Ultimate Racing (Q=14th Cup=2nd, R1=14th Cup=3rd, R2=11th, Cup=3rd)
“I really wanted to come here and win both races and its not quite happened. I was hoping that with Cadwell not being such a power circuit it would not make much difference with the other bikes being a bit faster than me but it didn’t turn out that way. I was making up the time around the turns but as soon as the tyres begin to go off I just couldn’t keep it going. I am running that hard at the start of the race that by the second half I am finding it a real struggle.”
Tom Tunstall – Hardinge Doodson Motorsport
(Q=23rd Cup=6th, R1=DNF, R2=17th Cup=4th)
“Coming here I knew I had room for improvement around Cadwell on a Superbike especially through the woodland section and I’ve been determined to turn it around. We’ve had a few issues with the bike and I lost some track time in practice which is a shame as I’m still learning around here – it’s a strange place.”
“I’ve enjoyed racing at Cadwell more than ever this weekend but I think some of the issues we had meant that the results didn’t show what we were capable of. I’m already looking forward to Croft and hopefully if things run a bit smoother there we should certainly be back on the podium.”
Howie Mainwaring – Team Maxxis (Q=18th, R1=17th, R2=14th)
“This weekend was a real learning curve. I have not been on a Superbike since 2006, so getting on the R1 after riding a stock bike was a completely different riding experience. I would like to thank John and the team for giving me the opportunity to ride the MAXXIS Adept Yamaha.”
FUCHS-SILKOLENE BRITISH SUPERSPORT
Steve Plater – H M Plant Honda (Q=7th, R=2nd)
“Qualifying didn’t really go to plan for me, in the first session I finished seventh and as we had a few problems with set up we changed things for the final session, but we had a little bit of rain, nothing much but enough to slow us down a tad Billy McConnell has been on fire all weekend. In fact I was thinking about calling the fire brigade to put him out.
“I realised that Billy was on the pace and in reality I was riding for second, unless he had a problem. I struggled to get past Westmoreland but once I got by I knew I could push on and pull a gap, which is what I did. I am happy enough with second but it is very tight now with only two points separating us so I need to finish the remaining three races ahead of him to be sure of the title.”
Billy McConnell – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=1st, R=1st)
“The MAP Raceways Yamaha team is working really well at the moment so I have to say a big thanks to all of them and wish Johnny a happy birthday. I’m rewarding his hard work with a win! I’m now just two points behind in the Championship so we’ve got that back on track. I actually felt sick as I knew I needed to claw back the points so today is a big step forward.”
Allan Jon Venter – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=8th, R=4th)
“My start wasn’t too bad but another rider ran me wide and I lost some places and my rhythm. Once I had calmed down I was able to build it up again and then just picked them off. It was sad for Lee but I’m really pleased for Billy. I’ve got to say thanks to MAP, Jason and Brad for all their help, and happy birthday to Johnny.”
Lee Johnston – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=6th, R=DNF)
:“I’m gutted as I felt confident for a good result. It would have been mega to have all three MAP Raceways Yamahas in the top five but it wasn’t to be. I know I had the pace and I had felt good, it’s just a shame my bike broke.”
Daniel Cooper – Centurion Racing (Q=21st, R=DNF)
"It's just been one of those weekends this weekend where everything has gone wrong from start to finish. We finally got the bike sorted just in time for the race and I knew the only way would be forwards. I got a mega start and had passed a number of riders by the end of the first lap and was now hoping to gain a top ten at the end of the race. I pulled out to pass Peter Ward and found Lee Johnston who'd had a bike problem in the middle of the track, I had no where to go and hit him at a fair rate of knots. Both of us went down and I'm just gutted for myself and the Centurion team and just hope we'll get a bit more luck at Croft."
BJ Toal – Centurion Racing (Q=22nd, R=15th)
Cadwell is my least favourite track and one I really wasn't looking forward to riding at. I'm really glad it's out the way and I hope to continue to settle in with the Centurion team at the remaining rounds of the Championship. I'm looking forward to Croft and getting a better result as this was a very hard and demanding weekend. Once again the Centurion team have been fantastic and I just hope I can get them some good results towards the end of the year."
Dan Linfoot – Node 4 Yamaha (Q=5th, R=5th)
"I am pretty happy to get going again, I really wanted to make sure I finished this race and get my confidence back on track. In the early laps I ran with the leaders but as the race moved into the last laps I struggled with arm pump, I feel good for my home race next time out where hopefully we can get on the podium again"
James Westmoreland – J W Racing (Q=2nd, R=3rd)
"That was a good race to be honest. We have struggled to get the bike working perfectly for this track all weekend and we had to use the hard compound tyre instead of the soft compound which our rivals could make work. To be still on the podium at my home race is a great result and it has moved me into 3rd place in the Championship. The gap to Steve in the Championship has increased but there are still 3 rounds to go, and anything can happen so I will go to Croft and try and win the race. I would just like to thank all my team, sponsors, family, friends and supporters. Roll on Croft! “
Nick Clark – Linxcel-Seton Tuning (Q=28th, R=DNF)
“It was a bad finish to the weekend, “said Clark, “I think it’s fair to say I found the jump tough. Handling the power and utilising the extra grip was a real challenge. Unlike the Superstock bike, where my times normally progress at a comfortable pace throughout the weekend, the Supersport bike was something else. Phil and the team did everything they could to help but it was unfortunate that this weekend just wasn’t to be.”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 600CC
Luke Jones – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=4th, R=4th)
“I got a rubbish start and then the arm pump kicked in. It was hard to ride but towards the end I caught second and third places. I made a dive for third but missed a gear and lost my drive. So I had to settle for fourth place which is ok, I‘m just gutted about the arm pump.”
Nikki Coates – MAP Raceways Yamaha (Q=22nd, R=18th)
“It’s been a nightmare weekend. I started in second place during practice but then had two crashes which didn’t put me in the right frame of mind. I had to ride the spare bike which is a little down on power but it was really down to me. I’ll put it behind me and look to Croft as I had a podium there last year.”
Jack Groves – Team HARIBO Starmix (Q=21st, R=15th)
“I made a good start from 21st, I won a few places and was now within another group and ready to do battle; I managed to pass all the group, bar one, the two of us battled on for six or more laps. I would pass him, then he would pass me back as I ran wide into the next bend. I knew that if only I could get past him quickly, well before the next turn, I could then work my way up to get to the next group of riders - that’s where Johnny was doing battle.”
“I pushed hard on every lap, trying to get to the group in front, but just couldn’t easily pass that other rider. I was seeing 1.44s on my lap-timer and was trying to stay relaxed and stay consistent and not let people pass me, and remember to breath’ but my arm muscles then wrists eventually started to tighten up with AP. I finished 15th after fourteen laps. Not so bad, I had at least scored another point for me and for the team. And we’d both stayed safe and sunny side up.”
Johnny Blackshaw – Team HARIBO Starmix (Q=17th, R=13th)
“I got an awesome start, but the track at Cadwell is so very narrow, we were all so bunched up into that first turn that I lost all those places that I gained. I then set to pick off individual riders, and when Dan Kneen suddenly passed me, I grabbed a tow off him and we moved up to the next group of riders.”
“At around half-distance I approached the mountain slightly-awkwardly, and pulled my not so strong shoulder muscles. After this I struggled to keep my pace going, and as the next rider was some four seconds ahead, with just five laps to go, I settled down to stay on board and protect my then current 13th position. I was happy with how the weekend had gone, but I’ll not be happy until I’m on the top step on the box. And I’m sure that’s not so far away now.”
METZELER NATIONAL SUPERSTOCK 1000
Richard Cooper – Team Co-Ordit (Q=8th, 6th)
“Cadwell has been a difficult weekend for me as I’ve been suffering from a virus so to finish in sixth and bring home some points was not too bad. With three rounds left, there’s still a good chance to catch Brogan for second. It was a bit of a surprise to get the call, but this is a fantastic opportunity and I’m relishing the chance to making my debut in World Superbikes for BMW this weekend, before concentrating on the final three Superstock rounds.”
Conor Cummins – Team Blackhorse (Q=6th, R=9th,)
“It was a solid weekend for me here at Cadwell but extremely frustrating. Practice went extremely well and it was a case of 'happy days' when I took sixth place and the second row after qualifying but the race itself was hard work. I couldn't have asked for a better start and felt that I had the pace to go with John [McGuinness] and Adam [Jenkinson] who went on to finish second and third but when Steve[Brogan] went down it allowed them to get away from the rest of us.”
”I was also struggling a bit with grunt off the corners and with outright top speed and whilst that made it difficult for me to overtake, it gave the riders behind me plenty of opportunities. I was really strong from the Mountain to the start and finish and could always close back up there but after the start was where I began to fall back slightly and the riders were queuing up behind me, eventually shooting by at the end of the back straight. We're all working our backsides off in the team and I was battling it out for fourth place so I can't ask for anymore from them.”
RELENTLESS BRITISH 125GP
Brian Clark – Clark Racing (Q=6th, R=DNF)
“Well that was as about as bad as it can get, the race today was for the taking quite easily and although anything can happen in racing we were 100% in with a shout for the win but racing changes so quickly and you just have to put up with it. The cylinder head insert has cracked causing water to get into the firing chamber, there’s nothing anybody could have done and Pete is the most meticulous guy I know. We’ll just have to do it all again when we get to Croft’ said an upbeat but incredibly annoyed Clark.”
KTM RC8 Super Cup
Richie Thornton – TA Creative Ltd/P&H Motorcycles (Q=4th, R=4th)
“After Brands Hatch I wanted to be in the top ten again. I was feeling very confident with the bike and the set up we had. I won my first race here a year ago on a 600 so it’s always been a good circuit for me. I was pleased with my times but frustrated at being pushed back to the second row on the last lap of qualifying.”
“Still, I was in a good position, best yet, and qualified two places above Dave Wood the series leader. That was a real bonus. It’s a shame it all seems to be coming together for me at the wrong end of the season, but I’m really pleased with my performance. It was great to be up at the front again.”
