Relentless Suzuki’s Alastair Seeley took the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship title this morning with his ninth win in a row at the Cadwell Park British Superbike round.
Seeley made the most of his pole position and led from the first corner to take the win by just over five seconds. There was only one man that could stop him lifting the trophy and that was Padgett's Honda's Steve Brogan. Brogan was determined from the start and his fourth place starting position.
Seeley immediately broke away but Brogan was left battling for second with Adam Jenkinson of SMT/Rocket Centre, but his race was soon over when on lap one he tagged the back of Jenkinson after running in too hot at the Hairpin which ended his race. Seeley from then on was able take the win unchallenged.
John McGuiness, on the sister Padgett's bike, who grabbed fourth at the start was given third by his teammate crashing out, but it took him only a few laps before he moved into second which he held to the chequered flag. This was a positive start to his first of three races of the day as he is also running in MCE British Superbikes category.
Jenkinson took the third and final step of the podium, a strong and successful ride for him taking his second podium of the season. The main battle was for fourth place between Marshall Neill of McConnell-Brown Motorsport, Conor Cummins of Team Blackhorse Yamaha, Richard Cooper of Team Co-Ordit and Daniel Hegarty of DW Racing.
Neill held off the pack for the majority of the race as positions were exchanged behind him, but it was Scott Smart of Moto Rapido Ducati who spoilt the party by moving up the grid from an astonishing 15th qualifying position to take fourth place.
Neill only lost out to Smart on the last lap putting him in fifth place followed by Cooper and Sam Warren of Skipshop.com Honda who finished in the same position he qualified to finish ahead of Hegarty in eighth and Cummins who eventually had to settle for ninth overall.
Even though Seeley has wrapped up the title with the maximum points of 225 the battle is still on for the remaining championship positions including Brogan’s second place after failing to gain any points this weekend.
