Cadwell Park BSB Race 1 | Glenn Irwin holds on after last gasp push from Ryde

Glenn Irwin pulled back precious points in the fight for the 2023 British Superbike Championship [BSB] after resisting Kyle Ryde is a late dash for the finish line.

The BeerMonster Ducati rider snatched the lead on the opening lap on the run down to Park for the first time, levering aside pole man Vickers for a lead he'd hold onto for almost the entirety of the race.

Making the most of the Ducati Panigale V4 R's power in the faster stretches while keeping it neat and tidy through the more technical back end of the circuit, Irwin was able to keep both LAMI OMG Yamaha R1s at bay.

He was made to work hard for it though after Ryde muscled his way through on Vickers late on to have a go at tackling Irwin instead. He briefly succeeded with a bolshy pass on the run to the Mountain, only for Irwin to hold a better line to get the drive down to the Hairpin and get back in front.

It was enough to give Irwin the spoils, earning him 18 points and allowing him to pull 7 points back on Bridewell, who could only manage fifth. The margin between them is 19.5 points with two races this weekend still remaining.

Second position for Ryde gives his fading hopes in the title race a boost, while the in-form Vickers added another podium to his season tally.

Jason O'Halloran put in a late push but could only manage to get onto the tail of the trio ahead as he settled for fourth, with Bridewell trailing them in fifth having been unable to get through on the busy chasing pack.

Lee Jackson was sixth, marginally adrift of Bridewell, with Christian Iddon being followed by team-mates Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman.
