AGB Transport/Packet Media’s Robbie Brown has been waiting all year to race at Croft for the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup Championship following his success last season at the Yorkshire circuit but the weekend turned out to be the worst he has had in years.
Brown is one of three riders that are now chasing the title and last year in the Superstock 600cc category he won the race by an astonishing 8.5s. This year was to be a different story and it started with Brown high siding in the first practice sessioncausing severe damage to his bike. Unable to return to the paddock due to crashing on the wrong side of the circuit vital time was wasted as the session continued.
Minutes before the second session started, a gearbox problem was discovered forcing the team to end the day on track to carry out further repairs for the following day. The problems continued with issues with the battery and clutch which drastically held him back to qualifying a dismal 30th on the grid.
Testing times were set to continue as he lined up on the grid on race day his Yamaha lost all electrical power, once restarted Brown kept his focus got a good start to make up 11 places in one lap. However yet again it wasn’t to be as Brown had his second high side of the weekend while running in 16th place and third in the cup.
Brown said: “This weekend needs to be forgotten about immediately. We should have thrown in the towel after the first practice crash, but we had high hopes for the race and somehow thought that the race would have a turn of fortune. After such a tough weekend, I just wanted to get a result for the team to repay them for the hard work they put in over the weekend. They worked tirelessly on my bike to make things perfect for me.”
“I can't really take any positives from this weekend. It's been a nightmare. Obviously I am lucky I didn't break anything when I crashed, but the thing that stands out for the weekend was how well we all worked together as a team. Everything that needed changing was changed and all credit to the guys behind the scenes, because they don't get the recognition they deserve, I can't thank them enough.”
Brown returns to track in two weeks at Silverstone, a circuit which he will be testing at in the meantime hopefully to sort any further issues especially now the current leader Sam Lowes was also disqualified from the results at Croft.
