Airwaves Yamaha's Leon Camier laid waste to the rest of the British Superbike field at Croft in this morning's final free practice, lapping a full second faster than Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton with his last flying circuit.
The Kent youngster had held a slender lead until he went out for one last set of laps which culminated in a 1'19.808 in comparison to Easton's 1'20.858 and third-placed man Andrews' 1'21.053.
The difference in pace is such that Andrews and fourth-placed Tommy Hill, on the Hydrex Honda, are on virtually the same laptime with Camier's team-mate James Ellison in fifth but places five to ten are covered by just three-tenths of the second. However, tenth-placed Sylvain Guintoli is a full 1.7s adrift of Camier.
HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi showed his pace early on with a 1'21.451 opening salvo while Hill, Andrews and Camierwere in close attendance. Andrews' team-mate Julien Da Costa nipped into third after seven minutes with a 1'21.712.
Camier went quickest a couple of laps later, at the same Ellison took third before being demoted by Andrews as Hill began a run of laps which saw him go fourth fastest and then knock Camier off the top with a 1'21.352.
He wasn't there long, however, as Ellison staked his claim for the top spot with a 1'21.204 but that was shattered by Camier one lap later who set the fastest lap of the weekend up to that point, a 1'20.343, as Andrews took second on a 1'21.149.
Easton and Andrews commended a battled for second, both setting their quickest laps of the session with 25 minutes to go as Camier started a run of laps that were consistently in the 1'20s bracket.
Hill parked himself firmly in fourth with a four minutes to go, lapping three one-hundredths of a second slower than Andrews before Camier blitzed everyone with his final circuit.
Quay Garage Honda's Gary Mason was the quickest of the Superbike Cup men with a 1'21.561 which was good enough for ninth overall while Peter Hickman was second and Tommy Bridewell third.
Karl Harris, on the Node4 Yamaha, crashed at Tower on his final lap but walked away from the incident.
