CROFT BSB: EASTON TAKES DEBUT SUPERBIKE WIN

Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton has taken his debut British Superbike win at Croft this afternoon after Airwaves Yamaha's Leon Camier went off the track at Tower corner on lap three and finished in sixth.

The 26-year-old Scotsman held off a last-lap challenege from Camier's team-mate James Ellison to cross the line first with HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes taking the final podium step, gifted to him when Simon Andrews crashed with seven laps to go.

Easton led away from the line as Camier went backwards through the pack, finding himself in seventh as they went through the first set of corners while Brookes, Ellison and Andrews charged after the Honda.

On lap two, Camier went past Motorpoint Yamaha's Chris Walker and Andrews in one corner but Andrews turned back tight and clipped the Airwaves man, pushing him back to fifth.

Going into Tower on lap three, Camier tried again to go underneath the Kawasaki, outbraked himself and ran onto the grass to miss Walker's rear wheel, narrowly avoided a ditch and re-joined dead last with plenty of work to do.

This gave the leading three a chance to get away but Brookes couldn't match the pace at the front and, after Ellison went past going into the Complex, fell back into Andrews' clutches.

It only took the Evesham man a couple of laps to go past the Honda, diving past into Sunny In, and he then began to pull away as Camier started to make his way back through the pack and into the points.

Andrews then went down at the same turn with seven to go and was followed into the dirt by Walker a few laps later, when it looked like his right-hand clip-on broke.

Worx Suzuki's Sylvain Guintoli also went down with a handful of laps to go, losing the front into the Hairpin as Ellison started his run to try and pass Easton for the lead.

It wasn't to be, however, at the Scotsman held firm and didn't allow Ellison any room to get underneath, defending his line into the final turn, crossing the line three-tenths in front.

Brookes was very nearly caught by two-time BSB Champion Ryuichi Kiyonari in the closing laps, who had passed Relentless Suzuki's Ian Lowry, who himself had Camier breathing down his neck.

Quay Garage Honda's Gary Mason took the Superbike Cup victory from Peter Hickman and Tommy Bridewell.
