Moto Rapido Ducati's Scott Smart has said he faced a tough decision when his National Superstock 1198S blew up crossing the line at Croft yesterday as he had choice of jumping into the pit-wall or the front of Alastair Seeley's Relentless Suzuki if it all got out of control.
Smart had been in a race-long battle for the lead and as Steve Brogan pushed himself and Seeley wide into the final hairpin, it was down to the Kent rider and 15-times TT winner John McGuinness for the win. But as Smart approached the line, the main bearing exploded, locking the rear wheel.
"I didn't have time to think, I just whipped the clutch it as it went sideways. I suppose you never lose your instincts when you rode two-strokes for as long as I did," said Smart, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
"Had it gone wrong, I had the option of jumping off the bike either into the pit-wall on the left or straight into the path of Alastair's bike, neither of which are very appealing."
